Hand building with clay offers endless possibilities for creating a variety forms. In this workshop students will be shown how to create unique platters and small dip bowls using stoneware clays in a variety of shapes. You will be taught hand forming techniques such as rolling out the clay and using crockery moulds to help create your desired form.

Various surface decoration and textures will be used to create your own unique piece, such as stamps and found objects like leaves. If you have a favourite stamp at home, please bring it with you!

During the second workshop, you will have a choice of four brightly coloured glazes to decorate your tableware with different painterly techniques.

This two part workshop is ideal for those wanting an introduction to the clay making process, to develop new skills and create your own functional platter which you can take home once fired! No experience necessary, just bring your imagination! Both one-on-one & group demonstrations given by the teacher. All pieces created will be functional, dishwasher safe & food safe.

Lesson one will focus on making the forms using pinching and slab building. Students will be introduced to a variety of hand building techniques using stoneware clays to create a range of handmade dishes, small plates & spoons & trays.

Techniques such as making slabs, using small moulds & pinching will be demonstrated – rolling out clay, in addition to cutting, refining, creating rims and applying textures.

Stoneware clays will be used in this workshop.

All items created will be glazed by the teacher after the second class.  All glazes used are food safe and microwave safe.

Participants are invited to return for a two hour decorating workshop where you will use underglazes to add pattern and colour using painting techniques with paint brushes.

You will be taken through correct brush techniques for a professional finish.

You will have a choice of four (4) brightly coloured underglazes which can be mixed together to create different shades. You can apply pattern, texture and bright colour with these underglazes.

You are encouraged to come with patterns or illustrations in mind to paint onto the surface of the clay. This painterly technique is just like normal painting, no expert painting skills required.

Your work will then be taken away to bisque fire, and will have a clear glaze brushed onto your work by the tutor to seal the coloured underglaze, make the colour pop, and make your pieces food safe and watertight.

Students will be emailed once their work is ready for collection.

It was a really fun and interesting workshop. The group atmosphere was so supportive and encouraging, and Jennifer was able to offer some wonderful one on one guidance as the group was not too big. The space that Laura has created is very inspiring, with gorgeous fairy lights and indoor plants, and an incredible grazing table. I would definitely recommend doing a workshop with Put Your Heart Into It, it's a really lovely experience. Ashlin
